E-mail: [email protected]

Dr. Robert E. Middleton, Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri, where he came from a distinguished line of doctors of Chiropractic. For almost 100 years beginning with his grandfather, father, uncle, cousin, and now with “Dr. Bob,” who has continued in an active pursuit and practice of Chiropractic health providers. Dr. Bob attended college at Southern Illinois University (SIU), but interrupted his studies to join the United States Navy where he served as a Hospital Corpsman. He served in hospitals, then transferred to second Marine Division where he served as an infantry corpsman. It was during this time that he realized there was something more to health and healing than their just giving medicine that coverd up symptoms but did not get to the cause of the problem. When needed, the medicine approach is good, but understanding that health comes from within the body began to shape his thinking in a new direction. After the Navy and further college, he enrolled at Logan Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri where he graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree (DC) in 1971. He is board certified in the state of Illinois. He has been in active practice since 1972 when he moved to Illinois with practices in both Tuscola and Champaign, Illinois. In 1986 he opened his existing office in Arcola, Illinois.

Because of his desire to help others, his respect for education and the love of learning, he continued with post graduate studies throughout his career. Motivated by his personal interest in sports injuries and physical fitness, he obtained his degrees as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and Certification in Acupuncture in 1987; then certification in Applied Kinesiology in 1998. Among his studies he has pursued Certified Chiropractic Posture Therapy Specialist, Chiropractic Rehab, Chronic Inflammation, Fibromyalgia, Applied Neurology, Applied Reflexology, Neurobiology of Mood & Cognitive Disorders; Clinical Practice Integrative Blood Chemistry, Nutrigenomics, Applied Clinical Nutrition, Balancing Body Chemistry and Nutrition, Anatomy Trains Myofascial Meridians, EB 305 Energy Balance, and most recently functional medicine and cold laser therapy. With his success with nutrition as a health support, he now has an online supplement store with Metagentics (link)where patients can order supplements directly and have them sent to their home.

Dr. Middleton is a family practitioner and treats all ages of children, adults and seniors. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services awarded him a certificate of appreciation of his generosity and support for the children and families of Illinois.

He married his wife, Linda, also from St. Louis in 1967. Linda has worked with “Dr. Bob” as a Certified Chiropractic Assistant, but now spends her time as a Certified Fitness Instructor and weight lifting judge. They have 4 adult children and 8 grandchildren who are the pride and joy of their lives. Dr. Bob has worked with the Tuscola football program for 34 seasons as a Chiropractic and Sports Medicine Physician. He is an active runner and bike races, having completed 5 marathons, numerous half marathons as well as 5 & 10 K races. Since 2005 he has taken part in the MS 150 in Houston, Texas with his son. They bike from Houston to Austin, Texas raising money for the charity for MS patients and research.

Chiropractic care has roots (link) traced back to as early as 2700 B.C. and 1500 B.C. in writings found in China and Greece. Then Hippocrates, who is considered the “Greek physician’ who lived from 460 to 357 B.C. basically established and published details of the importance of a chiropractic-like philosophy and treatment. He is quoted in his writings as saying, “Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases”. In the United States, D.D. Palmer founded the Chiropractic profession in Davenport, Iowa in 1895. The Middleton family was a visionary family in recognizing the principles of chiropractic as a key to unlocking the body’s ability to heal. Dr. Bob continues that vision in his own practice.

Dr. Middleton is active, with a passion to help people return to health through Chiropractic, “Unlocking the healing potential that is within all of us.” He is still on a mission of discovery that started many years ago.
